Absa
Charging penalties for a dormant account

Business & Finance

I have an account at ABSA which has not been used for many months and since I received a letter from ABSA that my account will be suspended due to inactivity I though that will settle the matter automatically However - I still see that the account is active.

Apart from the fact that the monthly account fees is deducted as normal I see I now got charged penalties for an account with a negative balance. How you still get away with charging R85 penalties for a account with only a minus R30 balance in this day and age with competing banks that will never do that to their clients is beyond me.

Please close my account and I will settle the final outstanding amount. I have moved to a proper bank (Capitec) long time ago. And don't ask me to come into a branch to go through your outdated bureaucratic and redundant system of cancelling an account. I am not even in South Africa so I cannot go to a branch even if I wanted to.

Today we have this wonderful thing called Internet and computers. Use it - send me my final statement and I will settle. Thats it.
