Momentum Short-Term Insurance
Unreasonable requests and no reasons given

Business & Finance

I have a policy covering my home contents and car.
My home was broken in while I was on holiday and I lodged a claim when I returned.

Momentum's assessor from a company called SIAS called to set up a meeting to do the assessment. The assessors do not work weekends so I had to book leave to meet with them.

The 'assessment' was a 4 hour interrogation session where they asked questions in excruciating detail. This included taking photographs of my entire house. including the location and contents of my home safe.

If this was not enough they then demanded to see the contents of my Bank Safety deposit box so that they can photograph the contents for "an inventory".

I sent an email to them asking why this is required and how is it relevant to the claim as the contents are not covered by the policy. I view this as an invasion of privacy and I'm already uncomfortable that they know the location of my home safe.

The answer from them was a letter threatening to cancel the claim if I don't make arrangement within 48hours as it is a reasonable request.

After 2 more emails and a few phone calls I still have not been told why this information is required.
