Insurance Assessors are not always right!

Business & Finance

We suffered a direct lightning hit in Dec'12. It killed almost every electronic item in our house, in addition to some serious structural damage. We claimed with Std Bank bond insurance & with our contents insurers. Our contents insurers were amazing. In no time our claim was sorted. Things were going okay with Std Bank insurance - until we got to our computer network. In Jan'13 we sent them the repair quote.

Between Jan & April (after many phone calls, "not having received the quote" etc) we were informed that their assessor, Waybridge didn't have a record of the damage, and therefore hadn't checked it when they inspected the damage (never mind that I showed the assessor the damage and asked him to include it in the report). They went back to Waybridge about it - and then told me that according to Waybridge the computer network is not covered because it's movable, and we would take it with when we move. Huh? It's cabled into the walls!!!

I realise this was a big claim (that's what we pay a massive amount every month for) but to get this far, then get told that something's not covered because of their assessor's apathy / lack of knowledge / inexperience is really bad form.
