Last night i stopped by at the ATM on the small Camps Bay mall to draw some cash. I put my card in and the machine registered the activity momentarily before freezing, switching off and then coming back on to report that there was 'a cable missing'. This is the first time my card has been swallowed and naturally i would expect that Standard Bank provide an infographic or emergency button somewhere reasonably close to the ATM that helps me in these type of emergency situations. To my astonishment there were no label indicating what to do or even a number to call in an emergency situation. Once i eventually got through to the call center i was given one option: to cancel my card. There was no apology made or additional service that helps me retrieve my card free of service, instead i have to spend my own time and money investing in another card. My interaction with Standard Bank over the past 24 hours has taught me that Standard Bank really just is a 'standard bank' with no additional value for money aspects. I can imagen this is why your competitors are gaining market share - that's easy to do when you show the customers that extra bit of helpfulness and care. Very disappointing.
