Standard Bank
Proof of residance does not appear on the system

Business & Finance

Today, 29 May 2013, around 15:15, i was at Standard Bank Newcastle branch.

I wanted to dispute an authorised debits on my account, reverse and stop a payment and to activate my EAP limit for internet bankink.

So i informed the consultant, (did not get her name) all wath i wanted to do, so she asked for my ID Book. I gave it to her and she scanned and keyed in my ID No.
She then told me that she can not assist me because my residantial address and ID does not appear on her Computer system, she further told me that this does not allow her to procced with the enquiry as i can not be positively identified. She says that is a security risk.

She turned me away, and said that i have to get proof of residance, she'll scan it and update these and only then she can assist me. I tried to find out how come i have been not informed about this update and why were assisted in other branches the previouse few months? She says those people where not doing their jobs properly.

Please note i'm not agaist the updating of these details.
I just wanna know how am i identifieable in the bank, by my id book or by a computer system? If so, then i do not need to carry my ID book to the bank.
