First National Bank
Account type and fee structure chosen not correct

Business & Finance

In April I decided to move my bank to FNB and as FNB now offered the Fee Saver option. My husband and I went to the Century City branch and I opted for a Gold Cheque account with the Fee Saver option. The consultant did not know the products very well but the account was eventually opened and I received my GOLD card a few days later.

On 3 May 2013 my account was debited with R79. I called the bank to verify and the call centre person indicated that I was on the Unlimited option. I was concerned as I was sure that I told the person who opened my account to select the Fee Saver option. My husband confirmed this as he was with me.

I then went to the Lansdowne branch and the consultant confirmed the Unlimited option and informed me that I am unable to swap to the Fee Saver option because the account was not a Gold Cheque account. So not only did FNB open the incorrect account, I am now unable to choose the Fee Saver option even though it clearly states in the FNB brochures and online (pg. 3 of the Personal Pricing PDF) that the Fee Saver option is available to Personal Cheque accounts. There is no mention of excluding Smart Cheque Accounts.

I need the above sorted out ASAP.
