Inability to confirm their own guarantee

I have sold a property and the purchasers have obtained a home loan through Standard Bank. I have been issued with a copy of the guarantee but cannot find anyone on Standard Bank who is willing or able to confirm the validity of the guarantee. I find this strange as a few months back I was able to confirm the validity of a SA Home Loans guarantee with ease - a contact number was printed on the guarantee letterhead. And the SA Home Loans guarantee was on a Standard Bank letterhead!
