Emirates
Double standards for child safety

Traveling & Tourism

I was given a bassinets for my 19 month twins on the 3 previous Emirates flights from Durban to Dubai, Dubai to New York and LA to Dubai. We complied with the seatbelt signs and took the babies on our laps when there was someturbulence. The fourth flight home from Dubai to Durban I received attitude from the air hostess who tells me that my babies are slightly too tall for the bassinets and she refused to give one to me. The previous flights, the height of the child was no issue, as they slept with their Knees bent and strapped in. She then went on to tell me that she may issue bassinet at her discretion. Disturbing indeed. We had to sit with the babies on our laps for the 8 hour flight. When my food arrived I asked the air hostess how was I to eat? Staff are not allowed to hold our babies to assist. She suggested I allow, my husband to hold two babies, unstrapped while I eat. I said it is not safe if we have turbulence. She next suggested that I leave the baby on the seat asleep and eat in the galley. Even more unsafe as he can fall! Emirates have failed to provide well though through standards for the safety children traveling under two years of age. Very disturbing.
