Damaged Luggage

Traveling & Tourism

On 11/12/2013 I checked in for my 06:00 flight (SA1765) from Cape Town to Gaborone via Johannesburg. I checked my luggage through to Gaborone as all these flights were scheduled for the same day.

However, when I received my luggage in Gaborone, one of the straps appeared to be ripped off from my leather bag (which was lightly packed due to the short trip). This could only occur with a considerable amount of force since these bags are equipped for heavy duty travelling.

I sent a complaint to SAA Baggage Services as soon as I arrived in South Africa on 27/12/2013 (the first reasonable opportunity for me to report the matter) and received an acknowledgement of receipt. After several follow up emails and no response whatsoever from SAA Baggage Services I sent the complaint through to SAA Customer Care. In this instance I also received an acknowledgement of receipt on 8 January. It is now almost the end of January and I still do not have any feedback from SAA thus far. As a frequent traveler I am quite disgusted by the matter and the reluctance of SAA to give feedback with regard to this matter.
