Beware trying to upgrade those booked seats!

Booked world traveler plus seats, many months before flight. Attempted upgrading to club world many times over the next few months with no success, this despite there being seats available in club world on the day of our return trip departure from the U.S.
World traveler plus seats are expensive and trip was significantly increased in duration, all in expectancy of being upgraded with air miles.
I have learnt from this and will not book BA again on the pretext that i may be upgraded, i will also go out of my way to fly any other airline if possible.
