Don't fly one way kills and try fly back with BA

We flew to Cape Town from ORTambo with a kite board and sail wrapped in bag at airport company with no issues. on our way back to johannesburg we went to check in and had an issue with the kite board and sails wrapped up by the airport guys exactly the same way as when we came down and had to wait 10 min for the supervisor Lydia Higgins to come. She then told us it's against their regulations and policy to put the kite board wrapped in that way (even though it was packaged exactly the same way) on the airplane as checked luggage. When asked how to get the bag back to Johannesburg she said if we paid for an oversized bag we would be allowed to check it in regardless of it being in a plastic bag or material luggage bag.
