OVER BOOKING

Hi

On the 01/09/2013 our SAA flight was scheduled for 18:40, upon arrival - 1 hour prior to departure we were first told about petrol issues hence we could not fly out then we were told that the said mentioned flight (which which was booked on the 16/08/2013 was overbooked and they could not accomodate us.

Please can you explain how this happens? We then had to wait for Mango or BA to possibly assit us to no avail. How does SAA choose who gets preference and why were we given to boot.

We were eventaully checked into a hotel by 09:00 nad have to leave the hotel at 05:00 to catch at 06:10 flight.
