Bad customer service around BA avios

My quest to "collect missing avios" for a recent British Airways flight (which I took in June 2013) proved to be frustrating. Firstly, the BA website did not allow me to collect the avios, despite numerous attempts over several months. I had tried to call them in the past but was always made to wait through interminable loops of marketing messages and theme music. Then today I made the call again and had to spend a substantial chunk of time listening to the same annoying nonsense. Finally I got to speak to an agent who was less than civil because I did not know my membership number off by heart. I eventually succeeded in claiming the avios but, all in all, it was an unpleasant experience. I wonder if continuing on the avios programme is going to be worth the effort.
