SAA
No provision for patient on crutches

Traveling & Tourism

My son had to fly from Cape Town to East London after being discharged from hospital after a knee operation. He was not allowed to put his weight on the operated leg and had to use crutches. A wheelchair was duly ordered but we were told that only paraplegics were granted the privilege of being hoisted into the plane. My son therefore had to make his way up the narrow steps into the plane and descend the same way on landing. In pain and on crutches this was a nightmare!!! Trying to book a comfortable seat for him in the front of the plane where he would have room to stretch his leg was also impossible. It seemed no one had the authority to use their initiative, nor were they prepared to ask for help. As SAA is the only airline which operates between Cape Town and EAst London, we had no other choice. A very poor show!
