Unhelpful Staff - Please Help Me?!

Telecommunications

I recently terminated my contract (14 January 2013) and migrated to prepaid. I have been advised that if I do not use my sim card by making a chargeable call within 90 days, my sim card will be deactivated and I will lose the number that I have had for over 10 years.

I am currently overseas in the USA for 4 months until (on 23 April 2013) - i.e. greater that 90 days - so I am unable to make any calls up until I return. I am still currently loading airtime and using it to sms but no calls are possible because MTN does not have call roaming for Pay As You Go in the USA.

I do not believe that it is fair on me to deactivate my sim card and lose my number because:
1. It is out of my power to make any calls right now given that I am overseas
2. I am still buying airtime, sending SMSs etc so clearly I am still active on the network
3. I am a loyal customer of MTN who has paid over R30 000

The lady at Customer Care informed me that SMSs do not count as being active and that I HAVE to make a chargeable call. CLEARLY NOT POSSIBLE.

Please can you not do this and give me an extra 9 days from 14 April 2013 until my return to SA on 23 April 2013? Stand up for your loyal customers
