BEING BLAMED FOR SELECTING A BAD PRODUCT

I recently upgraded my cellphone contract and received my new phone on the 11th February 2013. The new phone (Blackberry Bold 9790) has not been working properly since I received it. It constantly has no signal, meaning that I cannot send or receive messages, or make or receive calls. When I called the Altech Autopage Cellular upgrades department to tell them I am not happy with the phone and want to consider a different brand altogether, was told that as I did the upgrade online, I chose the phone, so it can't be swopped. The funny thing is, when I initially applied for my upgrade, I wanted the iPhone 5 - it was when their agent called to confirm my order and told me I had to pay in almost R6000 that I ASKED HIM what my best option would be, and HE RECOMMENDED, given my current phone and package I was on, that the Blackberry 9790 was my best bet. He made it sound that I had no other option in the matter and now I'm stuck with the consequences. I want a new phone (different brand) and I expect Autopage to accomodate my request in the interest of good customer service!
