Firstly I am not surprised that there are 2500 complaints lodged against 8ta, I am now confident of my case and am going to approach the national consumer council and my lawyers.
The problem started with installation last year, I was given a number to phone to connect my system, the number was no longer in use. Two months later I received an account for over R800. This was incorrect as my first three months were on a trial basis.
I went into the store and had them do the authorisation, but I made it clear to the person that unless a technician phoned me to explain the process I was not interested in continuing the contract and would cancel it. I was told that someone would call me.
That never happened then in November I received an SMS stating I owed them R5000. I disputed this as I had not even had the line connected yet.
What is even worse is that they are charging me R700 per month for the alleged contract when the initial contract fee was R389. They claim that I wanted the fasted speed connection which is not true, I only requested the standard contract which was R400-, minus caller ID which came to R389.
How can they bill me for a contract that I never agreed to!!!
