Vodacom
Poor service on a new phone

Telecommunications

I upgraded my contract on the 25th of January and got a Samsung Galaxy S4. I performed an OTA upgrade of the software from v4.2.2 to v4.3 on the 29th of January. The phone continued working fine until I went to a wedding on the 31st of Jan where I turned the phone off. When I turned it on it wouldn't register the SIM card at all.

I went to Vodashop in Brooklyn where they determined that the phone somehow lost it's baseband version. They advised I take it to Menlyn to avoid a long hand in time and the service center there can fix it. I took it to Vodacare where the assistant determined the fault was the same and said it needed to have its software reinstalled. This is after alluding that it's somehow my fault because I installed an official Vodacom approved update.

I got an SMS later on the 31st saying that the phone was going to a higher level repair center. I intercepted it today and they said they shouldn't send it off because it's OBF. They said it would be swapped out immediately. I got the paperwork and the took it to the Vodashop in Menlyn and now it has to be sent away for ~5 working days to be assessed before they can replace it. On a phone that's less than 7days old.
