Upgrades affect BIS end date, not contract?

Telecommunications

I signed up for a Vodacom Blackberry contract with BIS services early in 2010. I was offered an upgrade in January 2012 which was 2 months before the initial contract expired, which I exercised getting another Blackberry device with BIS services.

I currently qualify for another upgrade which I am not exercising until closer to my contract end date in March 2014 but the issue is that my BIS services have stopped at the end of January 2014 as I am told that due to exercising the upgrade in January 2012, the BIS services 24 month validity starts from that date (despite the previous contract having this service as well)?

If both contracts (both with BIS services) are valid for 48 months in total which results in the obligation to pay ALL costs until March 2014, why is the BIS conveniently ending from the upgrade date leaving me, the customer, without the free BIS service for 2 months? Why is 1 part of the contract (the free BIS services) ending in January 2014 whilst I must pay the entire contract until March 2014? Both contracts were signed in its entirety?
