Applied to cancel contract 2wks ago no response

I applied two weeks ago for my one contract with 8ta to be cancelled. The guy promised me I would hear from 8ta within a week. Last week Thursday after one week of phoning 8ta to find out why they haven't called, the guy tells me that they take 8 working days. That means they should have called last week Friday then!!! It's now been 10 working days and two weeks in total and I haven't heard anything!!! No courtesy call nothing!!! Why do I feel like its a deliberate action on their part to try keep charging me everyday... Technically it would have ended last month!
