Telkom not honnest with Upgrade policy

I upgraded my contract (from R99.00 to a R260.00) in December 2013 (while my contract was due to expire end of January 2014) and I was told that my new package would start 1 January 2014. Since 1 January 2014, I've been using my new package with minutes and data (I've not even exceeded my package).
To my surprise, I received this morning a SMS advising me of a R423.80 on 31 January 2014.
I phoned to enquire and I was told that I've been charged for my old contract, the new contract and some extras. When I said that I upgraded and even started using the new minutes, the lady told me that she cannot see the new minutes used but only the old ones.
At the same time, she said that my contract should finish first before the new one kicks in (funny enough, they charge me).
When I said that I wanted it resolved, she said that I need to go to the Telkom store I applied as she can't do anything from where she is. Now, I am currently very far from there and she wants me to drive all the way (petrol, tolls... who pays for that?). She gave me this reference:7388936
I don't like the fact that Telkom is trying to underestimate my intelligence! If they can't resolve it, I'm sorry for them!
