Vodacom iPhone 5 network problems

I have an iPhone on a Vodacom contract. I live in a rural area relying on EDGE cellphone service. After performing the Apple software update on my iPhone my phone doesn't receive calls or messages for 80% of each day. If you call my phone you just get "Subscriber is not available" I phoned Vodacom and was told to downgrade my software and send my phone to them for a week for an upgrade of software. This would require me to then do a sim swap from Nano sim to regular sim at my expense (so as to have cellphone service for my business) during the week long upgrade and then another sim swap to change back to a Nano sim once I got the iPhone back. I know of three other iPhone owners experiencing the same problem and online Forums are full of similar complaints. This is ridiculous Vodacom, I want to trade my phone in for an iPhone that will work.
