Faulty phone sent fo repairs and still no joy

Good day

I sent my phone in for repairs about 2 mths ago cause it was not coming on (Sony Xperia) when I gave the phone in I was told this is a common fault of the main board crashing
After approx. 10 days I got went back to fetch the phone and it seemed fine when I took it and switched it on but by that afternoon the phone went died again an refused to come back on again I took it in and they sent the hand set in - after another 15 days I rec an sms to collect the phone I went in to collect and the phone didn't even come on when I picked it up
The 1st repair that was done - there was no report for it with the papers - the lady phoned an checked an I was told that tested where done an a new battery was given
This time I was told tests where done as well not sure why the phone is still not coming on as it tested fine
My biggest problem is I have this contract and for the past now 2 months I am paying for it an not used it
The manager couldn't make a decision as to what to do - all he said was he would send the phone back
Seriously I want out of the contract and MTN can even keep there phone - but I wont pay penalties for a contract I am not even using

Can anyone help...
