Astronomical bill and erroneous upgrade

In Oct 2013 I received an sms from Vodacom saying that I was due for an upgrade & could do an online upgrade, which I did. I wanted to continue with BIS as I had been for the last 4 yrs so I chose the Z10 as it was a blackberry (so would have BIS) for a reasonable amount. I was under the impression that I was applying for an upgrade as I had received sms' saying I was due for one. The phone was delivered & I went to a local branch to have a simswap done. 2 days ago I discovered that I have an outstanding bill of over R7000!! Having now talked to friends, colleagues & various Vodacom consultants, it turns out I was not upgraded, but was given a new account AND BIS does not work on the Z10 - how could I have ever known a Blackberry would not have BIS on it? I would never have taken this phone if I had been told this at any point, which I wasn't. I am a teacher & cannot afford the astronomical fees that have been incurred and will have to borrow money to pay this. If I had had any advice on this at the beginning, I would either have chosen another Blackberry or chosen a data bundle to limit costs. I am devastated by this and have been put in this situation due to no fault of my own
