Vodacom
Sold me a new contract but can't use my old numbe

Telecommunications

My current contract was in another person's name and that contract expired on January 2014.

I contacted Vodacom to take out a new contract in my name. I explained that I wanted to use my existing number and that my existing number's contract was in another person's name which expired in January. I was reassured that I could keep my number and the contract was approved.

I got my phone yesterday and waited the recommended 5 hours for the number to be activated. I left it overnight, but this morning it still wasn't working. After a chat with the call centre this morning, they informed me that they'll have to create a random new number for me and that my old number had to be used on prepaid for no less than 6 months before a sim swap was allowed. This was NOT explained to me when they made the sale. This means new business cards on my expense, website updates on my expense, contacting all my suppliers, clients, etc.

I would've waited 6 months instead if it was explained to me. Now Vodacom simply shrugs and keeps telling me I'll have to create a new number. My contract has barely started and already the issues start.

Vodacom - Why the 6 month wait? Why wasn't this explained?
