Billed a RIDICULOUS amount

I recently took out a My Gig3 account from Vodacom. I had brilliant service in getting the device and I was billed R84.00 for pro rata charges in Nov. I was told by the operator that I would be happy with 3gigs and wouldn't need more for the amount that I wanted to download. In December i used it on average 3-4 days a week for 1-2hrs browsing and downloaded 3 songs.

My first bill was R1400.00 and since before christmas, I stopped using it thinking that I had over indulged. I recently got a pone call from my bank informing me that due to Vodacom taking off another R1100.00, I was in arrears and would be charge penalty fees. I was not at all aware of this amount. I queried it and was told that it was excess. If Vodacom charges in arrears, November was paid for at the end of November and December was paid for at the end of December. Because I did not use it at all between the 20th of December and this day, how on earth can they charge me a grand for something i have not used? I am now told to cancel I have to pay R3000.00. According to the Consumer Act, no contract is fixed and you are only liable for the 20 days notice you were given and a REASONABLE penalty fee. Disgusted!
