Water damage???

My phone was received in may last year. since that time it has been in for repairs 4 times, and now they say its water damage. i have never been near water with my phone. this phone is brand new, and now i have to spend money to fix it. i am so unhappy. why is it that now all of a sudden it has water damage? And why was the problem not resolved all the previous times?
