Failure to port a number for over a week

I applied for a new contract with Telkom Mobile on 22 November 2013. I informed the sales person that as a condition I wanted to port my number from MTN to Telkom Mobile as I did not want a new cell phone number. He told me that the porting will only be done on Monday 25/11/2013. I received the phone on 26/11/2013. The number had not been ported and I was told that the port will take place later that evening.
I have since then been promised by the manager/supervisor, Vasco, that the number would be ported but that has not happened. I have also reported this to their call centre. They promised to attend to the matter but I have not received feedback from them. When I called their call centre today the consultant informed me that it is my responsibility to contact MTN to request the number to be released. I have dealt with at least 4 different people before today and I was never told for over a week that I had to do this myself.
I feel that a misrepresentation was made to me which led me to proceed with my application. The lack of feed back from both the store and their call centre is shocking. I feel that if my number cannot be ported then it affects the validity of the contract
