Vodacom
False advertising to sell contracts

Telecommunications

In November I bought a mobile contract from Vodacom Tygervalley. I purchased a Smart Standard package. The advert promised 250 minutes, without specifying any restrictions. Restrictions (Vodacom-Vodacom only) were specified with a lighter package, thereby implying they did not apply to my selected package. Turned out only 130 minutes were actually anywhere, anytime. The rest were all Vodacom-Vodacom only, with half being weekend only. The next month the advert listed the restrictions.

Taking my complaint back to the store has been like talking to a wall. Seems all they're authorised to do is incessantly repeat their standard packages, and claim that its acceptable because 'the advert did not say it's not Vodacom-Vodacom only''. By that logic they could have given me 250 Night Owl minutes! A bit like selling a car and afterwards telling the buyer it can only drive on highways. "We never said we'd get you all the way to your house! ""

What's been most shocking is how unresponsive they've been to my complaints, raising suspicions that this is a deliberate tactic aimed at getting you to exceed your minutes in order to fork out R2 per minute.
