SIM Sonke: Not following Consumer Protection Act

Telecommunications

Telkom will not let you port your number from an existing Telkom Mobile/8ta package to SIM Sonke. I've been told in-store that this is a business decision by Telkom. That's fine. What isn't fine is that nothing in their promotional material tells prospective customers that they are doing this.

The Consumer Protection Act seems to require companies to make such restrictions known. In general terms, Section 48 and 49 seem to require that a term or condition in an agreement is unfair if the company does not draw adequate attention to it.

Being able to keep your own mobile number is important to most people. Not being able to do this when going to SIM Sonke, and therefore remaining stuck on a more expensive price plan from the same company, does seem to be something a customer should be made aware of. But nothing on the website or in the SIM Sonke starter pack seems to explain this.

Can someone from Telkom Mobile please explain what attempt they are making to make sure people see this important restriction?
