I have been a loyal customer of Afrihost for over 4 years now and host 3 domains with them. One of the domains is highly reliant on traffic. After discovering that this site was down for over 20 hours costing me valuable traffic, ad revenue and loss of employee wages, I invoiced Afrihost for the losses.
Their response was: "We are sincerely sorry that your experienced such frustration regarding your hosting. Unfortunately server downtime is a reality of the internet environment, and we do our absolute best to ensure that this is always kept to a minimum. The downtime was due to an external network in the US, who provide our hosting in that country, and unfortunately we had no control over the resolution of the issue on their side.

While we are not in a position to honour your invoice, we would like to offer your 6 months free hosting on your affected package, as a token that we are sincerely sorry for the unfortunate incident" - Suvesh.

The value of their "Token" is a mere 10% of what I actually lost. Surely there should be a backup in place ensuring sites never experience a down time? Also a few hours is acceptable, 20 is NOT!
I will be looking for alternative hosts!
