Vodacom handing out client details

I have been contacted by numerous telemarketers lately regarding deals on cellphone packages, even though I have a contract i cannot get out of anyway. I finally asked how they got my details, as the new Consumer protection Act is supposed to protect consumers from this sort of direct marketing. The marketer confirmed that they are working with service providers like Vodacom, who give them their clients' names and numbers. I am shocked to hear this, especially in these times were cellphones are being hacked and used to gain access to personal banking, etc. And apparently these only need your number, which is obviously not hard to find if your service provider is just handing this out for marketing purposes... Shocked...
