Cell C
No credit history = No contract

I am very disappointed with Cell C. I tried to get a contract with them, and was told that I don't have a credit history. I am a doctor and have been out of the country for several years as a result my credit profile shows no history. Even after faxing my payslip which clearly reflects that I can afford an iPhone or a Samsung galaxy contract, I was told I can only qualify for a sim-contract with top up 200, which is impractical for me. I even tried to speak to the person in charge over the phone to explain why I need that particular phone, I travel in and out of the country and I need a phone that I can use for basic admin operations while out of the office. I understand that a credit history is required for a company to grant credit with no reservations but for a person my age who doesn't have a credit history for a valid reason and whose salary is reflective on how much I can afford. I think there has to be a concession in such cases. I even offered to pay an upfront deposit of some sort, which is similar to what is done in the US if one has no credit history or poor credit. I've had a smart phone contract in the US for over 7 years. Not happy at all!
