Cellphone "water damaged" in the desert!?

Telecommunications

My phone was working well until I took it to the Kgalagadi in Aug. As there was no signal in the camp we stayed at, I left the phone in its pouch in the cubbyhole of the car, which was parked underneath a carport.

On the morning of the 6th August I could hear the phones alarm going off at about 6:45am, and it continued until the phones battery died. The phone wouldn't turn on after this.

On the 12th August I booked the phone in to be repaired under warranty.

On about the 26th August I was informed that the phone had "water damage" and the repair would cost about R5, 500.00. I rejected the quote and explained that it was impossible for the phone to have water damage in a closed vehicle in the middle of the desert.

Today I went to collect the phone and was told the following:

1. I am unable to give notice to cancel the agreement at the end of its term. I can only do that a month prior to the contract end date.
2. If I want to cancel the agreement with immediate effect I need to pay a significant amount more than if I were to continue paying the monthly contract.
3. I must pay R150 rejection fee for the unfixed phone!?

This is unacceptable as it should have been a warranty repai
