Phone stopped working with 3 weeks of getting it

I upgraded my contract on the 19/07/2013 & took the new Sony Xperia Z. On the 8/08/2012, the phone died. It wouldn't charge so I took it back to MTN. I was told in order for the phone to be booked in under warranty assessment (which means I will get a new phone instead of me waiting for them to fix the phone) I needed to bring it back with all its accessories. I brought everything back on the 16/08/2013. I was told it will take them a week to access the phone and give me a new one. To this day I don't have a phone. The first time I called for an update, I was told to call them back when I have an SR# - without that I couldn't be helped. How is that possible? Why is giving them my contract number and ID number not sufficient? Why is MTN not bothers to keep its customers posted on the progress of their investigation? Tomorrow will mark the end of a 2nd week since my phone has been booked in, I haven't received a single call from MTN. The last time I called I was told that they are still waiting for feedback from Sony. Why? My phone stopped working within 6 months and according to my contract I get a new phone, why must I wait for Sony? How am I expected to carry on without a phone?
