Misinformed when renewed contract

I have recently had to "upgrade " my service package that I had. I explained to the lady at the store, that I need my phone to sms, BBM and to call Internationally. My Dad lives overseas, he is 77 yrs old and the only means I have of communicating with him is by phone. As this is not my field of expertise I took the package they offered as I assumed this was according to the requirements I explained to her and obviously this person knows her job. At NO TIME did she tell me that the "free" minutes I get cannot be used for international calls.
With my previous contract I use to phone my Dad twice a week and never ran out of airtime. I then found out afterwards that I could not call my Dad. They never activated my international calling. Between the store and the call center I got conflicting answers, one said I cannot do it with my contract, the other said I could. After various calls back and forth a person who I assumed would sort this out called me. I explained the problem and that I am going to visit me dad so wont be available for feedback. He said that he would keep me updated via e mail. I have not received 1 e mail and have had no feedback since. It has been about 6 week
