Received a bill 3 years after contract has expired

My Cell C contract ended in November/December 2009. I still realised that I was being debited after contract expired and contacted Cell C. They advised no cancellation was requested. (at this time we thought when you sign for 24 months it is for that period only). I then requested a final balance to make payment and advised them to cancel the contract. Also emailed and faxed cancellation to them. Unfortunately I do not have a record of this as this is so many years ago. An amount of R405.00 was paid on 28 January 2010 into their Nedbank account to which I still have the proof of payment (luckily). I received an attorney letter (the first letter ever since I made payment) now requesting an amount of R700.00 and goes futher to say they will attach my property to defray expenses. I called their call center twice with no joy. I will not pay them a cent and want a letter of apology for the rudeness of the letter received. They must go through their records (99%of which they never have) and correct this situation. Been with Vodacom since and never had an issue once. I will not pay any further amount as I only signed for a 24 month contract.
