Vodacom
Systems offline, sooooo

Telecommunications

My iPhone 5 started getting really hot this morning and switched off for good. Off to the Vodacom Customer Care Centre I went, hoping to drop it off for repairs as my business requires me to be available on the phone constantly.

I was informed that their systems were offline and that they would not be able to book my phone in for service.

Now, I am no a scientist but seriously a few simple logical questions:
1. Vodacom is a service provider themselves and they can't keep their own systems online? Shouldn't this be a concern?
2. Fine, something goes horribly wrong and you are offline. The staff sitting twiddling thumbs in the customer care centre can't pick up a piece of paper, log my details manually and take my device? Surely there should be some sort of plan in place to deal with this very situation?
3. I asked the folks at the counter if there was any way for Vodacom to come pick up my device and they thought this was the funniest thing ever - does Vodacom in this situation feel that my time is not as valuable as theirs?

I don't know if this is the sort of service I expect from someone as vital as my service provider. Very disappointed.
