Bad Service for the poor in the township

As from mid-April 2013 until today (03 July 2013), the Telkom landline Service in my grandmother's area which is Nyanga East, Cape Town has not been working. I have called Telkom numerous times reporting this and the response has been that the are working on repairing the service and it will be done soon. The reason given for the lack of service has been cables in the areas and at one point the gave a date by which the repair will be completed. What upsets me about all this is that I have an 82 years old grandmother who stays alone in the township and I need to be able to contact her everyday and all the time.

This lack of service almost cost us my grandmother's life last week, she had a heart attack and the helper was not able to contact the ambulance - a neighbour contacted me via cellphone! I am unable to purchase a cellphone for her as she is unable to use it - so we need to have the landline operational at all times. She is back home now and I am very worried about her not having telephone service again as I am unable to check on her and monitor her progress while being at work.

The poor are never taken seriously hence this bad service by TELKOM!
