Sim swap not done

Telecommunications

I went to get an upgrade for a new phone on Friday. It turned out that the new phone doesn't support my existing simcard, as a result I was told to do a sim swap. The sim swap alone is so expensive given that to buy a new simcard cost less than R1. Nevertheless I did the sim swap and I was told that it takes 2 to 48 hours for the new sim card to work. I do not understand that how come with today's technology that it should take so long for a new simcard to be activated. I waited since Friday until to today, when my old sim card was de-activated and the new simcard wasn't activated either. All I got was an error: "Simcard not provisioned". Being unable to make a call I took time to go to the MTN in Zeevenwacht mall. After Washiela looked into my account, then said that the activation failed on Friday when the simswap was done. She then said that she'll log the call with MTN, and a supervisor the may fix the problem, but that won't happen today, but maybe it will happen on Monday. Now I'm sitting here with no phone that is working as both of my phones are now disabled. Why should a simple thing of changing a phone be so expensive and complicated?
