Telkom refuses to replace faulty goods

I took out a Telkom Simple deal. The deal includes a Huawei 3G dongle which i collected at the Telkom Direct store in Cape Town CBD (5'th June 2013). Got home plugged in the dongle only to find that the thing is faulty... at this point i am slightly upset but acknowledge that sometimes things like this happens. The following day (6'th June 2013) i take the dongle to the Telkom direct store in Tygervalley Mall where i get told that they cannot just replace this dongle but have to send it away first. One of the consultants at the store suggests that if i can go back to the Telkom Direct store in Cape Town where i collected the device and possibly get it replaced straight away... this is where i argue and ask what the difference is between the store in Cape Town and them? Why should i be inconvenienced? I then insist on them calling the store in Cape Town only to get the remark from a consultant in Cape Town that the 3G dongle is considered a FREE B in the package whether it is broken/working or not!!! what business operates like that i wonder? The store in Tygervalley subsiquently took in the Dongle and will get back to me apparantly... will not be holding my breath
