Since February this year my internet line's download speed has been extremely low and my line's ping has been frustratingly high at night during the weekdays and throughout the weekend.
I have spent many months on the phone as well as emailing both MWeb and Telkom without much success. Each blame the other but it seems as though the problem with a congested internet exchange.
I've done trace route tests using both the Guest Telkom line and through my MWeb account and on both tests there seems to be a noticeable difference on the second hops latency using both a local and international site which infers a problem with a congested internet exchange, along with the times at which my line is affected, it supports the theory of a congested internet exchange and that responsibility with Telkom.
The only time I get a sense of assistance on the issue is if I phone Telkom directly, the online service has been completely dead in terms of communication and customer support. To give an idea of what my 'high local ping' is, it usually stays at about 500ms local whereas it should be at around 20-40ms.
I'm tired of waiting and the next step is picking up the issue with ICASA.
