Cell C
Cell C have no easy opt out, and keep on spamming

Telecommunications

Further to my complaint of spamming from Cell c (written on 14 May), somebody from the Cell C customer service dept called me (that was good). Although the person wasn't rude, they seemed unbothered that I had been spammed, as if it happens a lot. They guy said that I had to go to the website to optout. That is entirely ridiculous - why should I not only phone but also then go to a website to opt out of something which I never opted in for? Sipho told me that his supervisor would just tell me the same thing, there was no other way to do it. So in the end I went to the website, found the opt-out section and saw that in order to OPT OUT from cell phone spam, they require my name, ID number, cell phone number, postal address AND EMAIL ADDRESS! Are they mad? Why on earth do they require all this, and why should I give this info to a company which doesn't protect the information or respect my privacy? There is no apology on the site for the unwanted spam, nor any promise that they will stop spamming or protect my details.

I entered my cell number and email address, made up an ID number and postal address. I received a further sms spam message a week later..
