MTN call rates ridiculously high

I have been a MTN customer for almost 6 years in which there was not even a attempt to reduse call rates. They also cut the number of contract packages their offered.

Doing the simple math - you find out really how expensive they are. With any MTN Topup package you pay R2.30 per minute in bundle and R2.85 per minute out of bundle. So with R100 airtime (Topup 100) you get effective 43 minutes. But they apply the per minute billing schema. So with an average call length of 1.5 minute you pay for 2 minutes (R4.60 - R3 per minute). So R100 airtime gives you effectively 30 minutes of calling.

Now with a provider such as CellC you pay R100 and get 99c per minute using a per second billing scheme. So effectively MTN is 3 time more expensive as CellC. And CellC gives you extra stuff such as free SMS & DATA.

When my contract is done, I will move to CellC - no dough. I willing to pay the price of bad reception and some dropped calls every now and then. Thats still no tradeoff compared to MTN expensive call rates.
