I joined Virgin Active Paarl last year, knowing that I will soon move to Cape Town. I asked them whether it would be a problem to change branches.

They assured me that it is as simple as making a phone call and then I can transfer to any gym in the country excluding the exclusive Melrose Arch unless I pay an increased membership fee.

So this morning I call to transfer my membership and I get informed that the rates will be increased by almost 50% (from -R400 to -R600 per month).

I remember explicitly asking them about costs involved when moving to another branch and nothing was mentioned.

If I had known that the membership would increase by so much, I would not have joined in the first place but they conveniently forgot to mention this.

To add insult to injury, I also have to pay a leaving fee of R500 which is better than the R2400 which my gym fees would have been for the next few months.

I was aware of the leaving fee but it still.

So Virgin in the future, play open cards, now you have lost a member for life.
