Unjustified handing over to DCA

On Nov 1st 2012 we paid for a new Contract in my name and were assured that the contract in my husband's name that was expiring woud be cancelled. We paid in full for the new contract. At the end of November we were contacted by a Debt Collection Agency. We contacted Planet Fitness complaining bitterly that we had been handed over and were assured that that matter would be corrected. We asked for a letter of apology but were not given one. Yesterday 19/2/2013 we were contacted yet again by the Debt Collection Agency. How dare Planet Fitness, without warning hand over members who are paid up and using their Gym on a regular basis with no notification or warning of any sort. It's bad enough that they can't get the paper work right but to hand over out of hand is just disgusting. It's causing us emotional distress every time we answer the 'phone to these people. At present we both regret signing on again with Planet Fitness because of this treatment.
