When contract expires may it end then

My contract expired in October so I told Junior in September to cancel it when it ends in October. She was more than happy to comply and on top of that she said they will give me two free months which I was thinking is because of my years of loyalty. Now the catch came when they debited me for January. I went there spoke to Simon (the manager) who came up with a different story that apparently by accepting those two free months I was agreeing to continue with my contract which I wasn't told meaning its not an agreement. Still he assured me they will refund me which was on the 31 December 2012. No one came back to me so I had to call everytime and finaly today 10 days later I call him and he tells me that: "because I put in the cancellation on the last day of the month headoffice says its a No" however he still needs to speak to his regional manager about the refund and I must give him another week to do that. Which according to my view there will be one of two cases I might get my refund if i'm lucky or they will say its a no as he said and I didn't even use the gym for the money they have debited which was a huge inconvenience, speacially based on the time of the year. Pls fix this.
