Too incompetent to change a debit orde

I have contacted Virgin Active on numerous occasions to change my debit order details. I hold for 10 minutes at a time when I try to phone them and they keep on saying that they have changed my details only to have it debited from my old account. Can I get confirmation that it has been changed so that I can close this old account???!!!?
