Expired Gym Contract

Good afternoon
My gym membership expired on 28/02/2013, after 36 month contract.
I e-mailed notice of cancellation on 13 Dec 2012, to an address provided by a telemarketer which the gym now denies as being correct. The gym also changed their name to "Extreme Health and Fitness", without notification and states it was their original name before they started trading as "Designer Physique".
I took these issues up with an admin manager providing her with the sent e-mail of cancellation on the 26 April 2013, after the debit order commenced. She insists on three month notice period.
I stopped my debit order beginning of June 2013, and have sent numerous e-mails, but they insist the notice period, fees for each sms sent and that legal action will be taken.
They seem to think that the CPA was brought in for every other supplier accept them, and the fact the contract was signed before the CPA commenced now would set them free of the legislation, and they can do as they like.

Read the CPA again!!!
