Charged differently after cancelling

After i lost my job 2 months ago, i was no longer able to go to gym since i had moved back home, That very same month I stopped working and was not able to pay for that month not knowing that they had started billing me normal rates without Vitality.
I then got a call from one of the agents telling me i skipped payment, i tried telling her i lost my job and cant go to gym anymore and that i can't afford to pay the full amount without Vitality. She immediately told me its not her problem i should have read the contract. I was then told i have to pay a cancellation fee if i wished to cancel my contract, buts why am i expected to pay a percentage of the normal fee and not with Vitality since i had vitality while i was still paying asked. She again rudely told me to read the contract as if i chose to move back home and loose my job.
